Professional Assessment for Specific Back Treatment with BackScan®
Spinal Mouse ® is a a well established innovative measuring device delivering a computer-assisted imaging and radiation-free examination of the shape and mobility of the spine in the sagittal and lateral plane. Segmental angles for each vertebral joint are registered and shown in functional graphics.
Measuring is fast, easy and reliable: The device is manually guided over the skin of the back along the spinal column. The measuring head follows automatically the sagittal and lateral shape and records clinically relevant data. A highly sophisticated software algorithm uses this information to calculate the clinical parameters.
Results show excellent validity when compared to X-rays. The BackScan® Software highlights «red flags» for indications, such as hypo and hyper mobile vertebral joints or deviations from reference values.

BackScan® data can be effectively correlated with X-ray or other imaging studies, and physical exam, to increase assessment accuracy.
BackScan® Software automatically generates a graphical display of the measurement. The resulting reports are presented in a user-friendly style and allow a direct comparison of your measurement with the normative values. They can then be printed or saved with the patient’s data.
Compared to existing methods Spinal Mouse ® offers significant advantages in terms of accuracy, objectivity, reproducibility, data presentation, non-invasiveness, absence of radiation, ease of use, time saving and excellent cost/benefit ratio.
In addition to the above functionality, BackScan® offers a functional capacity test and a “free mode” to measure the spine in activities relevant to you, like for example measuring the alignment of the spine during a squat exercise. As with the standard measurements, a graphical representation of the intervertebral motion and comparison of the measurements will be displayed.
