How BackScan® produces a Back Screening
The BackScan® device includes two rollers embedded in a mobile support that allows the tracking of the spinal contours while is guided manually on the skin along the spine.
There is a strong relationship between the surface line on which the measurement is performed and midline of the spine in terms of alignment, range of motion and performance of its functions. The measuring head follows automatically the contour of the spine in the sagittal and frontal plane and records clinically relevant data. A software program using a highly sophisticated algorithm uses this information to calculate the clinical parameters needed for the Back Screening.
This shape is recorded by three sensors (one for each plane of three-dimensional system of Cartesian axes x, y, z). Clinically relevant data such as the back length, the inclination relative to the perpendicular, the kypho- and lordosis of individual spinal segments, the segmental angle and the position of the pelvis are transmitted wirelessly to your computer program.
The software automatically generates clear graphs and comparison tables. Abnormalities are immediately visible on the screen.
Both the lateral and sagittal movement of the spine are assessed. Common positions tested include: full spinal flexion, upright, full spinal extension, and maximum lateral bending.
Depending on the patient’s needs the measurements for the back screening can be done standing or sitting or in modified positions. The data obtained from these various positions allows the measurements to be compared against normative values, as well as the patient himself over time.
BackScan® back screenings give you detailed results with high accuracy in no time:
- spine alignment, measuring segmental and global angles in the sagittal and frontal planes
- posture and spinal mobility
- spine functions and postural performance
Compared with other existing methods, BackScan® measurements are:
- quickly and easily performed
- accurate, objective and reliable
- data presentation and reproducibility
- harmless to the patient and non invasive
- excellent cost/benefit ratio.
The results show excellent validity, while the software (evolving) collects and interprets the data and compare them with standard values highlighting hypo and hyper mobility.
BackScan® is extremely valuable for scientific purposes.
